All About Suri Silk DK
The first time we touched this base, we were completely smitten. There’s something almost magical about it. It's light, airy, and easily the softest of all our blends. It’s the kind of yarn that makes you pause just to enjoy the feel. Honestly, it’s about as close as you can get to petting a kitten!
Suri Silk DK blends the luxurious softness of baby Suri alpaca with silk threads, which adds just enough structure to create that dreamy, feathery texture we can’t get enough of.
First, the yarn is spun with the silk to create a smooth, elegant thread. But then comes the real magic: brushing. This extra step lifts and fluffs the fibres, separating them into a soft halo that feels light as air and incredibly gentle on the skin.
If you love the look of mohair but find it a little too itchy, this yarn might just be your perfect match. It’s beautifully soft, even against the most sensitive skin, and brings a touch of effortless elegance to whatever it becomes.
As always, we love that it’s a non-superwash base, just like Alpaca Air, which we mentioned in our last blog post. We’re still amazed that something this soft can be completely natural.
The Suri Silk DK takes dye beautifully and gives to all our colours a touch of luxury. Which is why we decided to dye it in both variegated and tonal colours. Or you can enjoy it in its natural undyed softness
Sometimes, some skeins may need a little fluffing before you get started but it’s well worth it for the effect. Every time we do it in the Studio it always look like a baby alpaca shed its fleece!
We’re so excited to share Suri Silk DK with you. It’s the kind of yarn that doesn’t just make beautiful things, it makes the making feel just as special.
