All About Alpaca Linen DK

The first time we worked with this base, we couldn’t stop squishing it. It’s got this irresistible softness, thanks to the baby alpaca and silk, that just makes you want to cast on immediately. But what really sets it apart is the linen. It adds the slightest rustic texture and a natural warm caramel tint that gives this yarn such a beautiful depth, even before dyeing.

It’s spun with a gentler twist than most of our bases, which gives it that smooth, slightly bouncy feel in the skein. When dyed, the colours come out soft and mellow, with speckles that gently bloom across the yarn. If you love more subtle tones or those painterly, softly shifting speckled shades, you’ll fall hard for this one.

A truly amazing characteristic of this blend is how the linen fibres don’t fully take the dye. It creates a soft, heathered effect that gives the yarn real depth and interest. That's exactly why we decided to dye it in both Tonal an Variegated colours, the muted finish is just too beautiful not to show off.

The Alpaca Linen DK is beautiful even in its Undyed form. It has a soft, creamy shade that comes from the natural colour of the linen blended with the off-white tones of the alpaca and silk. The result is a subtle, elegant base with a unique warmth all its own.

And the fabric? Light, drapey, and oh-so-cool. It blocks like a dream and has that effortless elegance we’re always chasing for warmer weather knits. Think floaty cardigans, featherlight pullovers, and summer shawls that feel just as good as they look.

We also love it for weaving and textured stitches, the linen gives just enough structure to make patterns pop, while the silk keeps everything light and fluid.

If you enjoy the natural creamy colour that the linen

It’s soft enough for most skin types, though if you’re especially sensitive to alpaca or other camelids, it might not be your go-to for necklines. That said, it’s a treat to work with and just as lovely off the needles as it is on.

We’re so excited to finally share this one with you. It’s one of those yarns that quietly charms you. With its feel, its texture, and the gentle way it turns into something really special.

You can find our favourite pattern pairings for it over on our Ravelry page, we can’t wait to see what you make.
