FOLKLORE YARN & TEA CLUB

THE TALE OF THE JINN

In ancient times, when the earth was young and the sky stretched endlessly, elusive beings known as the Jinn roamed the world. These creatures moved unseen among humans, their presence felt but rarely perceived. It is said they inhabit realms intertwined with ours, woven into the fabric of existence. Stones, trees, ruins, and even the winds were their dwellings.

Jinn are considered beings parallel to humans. Like us, they possess free will, capable of choosing between good and evil, and therefore face the same ultimate destiny. By nature, they are beings of smokeless flame, while humans are said to be made of earth. Often, they prefer to remain invisible, though they can manifest in human or animal form. Jinn dwell in all manner of inanimate objects—stones, ruins, lamps—and even beneath the earth, in the air, or within fire. Though they share some physical needs with humans and can be killed, they are unbound by most physical limitations.

Jinn can be benevolent or malevolent. Some serve as protectors — kind, wise, and sometimes granters of wishes— while others, angered or dark-hearted, seek to harm those who wrong them. If a human unknowingly offends a Jinn, revenge is swift and terrible.

Though their powers surpass humans', Jinn are not immortal. A skilled human can defeat a Jinn. Many fear them most when they remain hidden, for they can strike without warning.

Mysterious and untamed, the Jinn continue to inspire both awe and dread. One never knows whether an encounter with them will result in vengeance or the granting of a wish.
